Walls have been used since the beginning of history to hold a level of soil or other property up, or to protect lower areas by holding soil back. The walls we construct are made out of one of three materials: Man made Segmental Retaining Wall stones, which have been engineered for retaining wall, and work well if constructed properly, Natural stone, which has been uses for millennium by man for this purpose, can make strong and beautiful walls, but is harder to work with properly; while pressure treated softwood ties are used to construct Tie Walls, which are a more recent material, are a nice effective and inexpensive solution for many problems, but they probably won’t last much longer than 40 years.
Specializing in small to medium sized walls (under 4 foot). Walls are constructed with the proper batter and engineering for the material used.
For Segmental Retaining Walls many of our customers have used E. P. Henry wall stones, but we also can use Imperial, Techo-Bloc, Cambridge, Belgard, Anchor, Hanover, Rinox, CST, Allen Block or any other brand of wall stones. Installation is the same for all of the different brands – see Wall Construction for construction information. Segmental Retaining Walls or Interlocking Block Wall Systems can be used for a long-lasting and nicely textured wall. Segmental Retaining Walls come in many different styles and come in a large variety of colors. Click here to see the best practices we use to construct a good wall as taught by the NCMA and used by the top Hardscapers and Landscapers.
Many types of natural stone are readily available for layered stone walls. Stone Walls can be built with mortar (requires footing), or as a dry wall (more economical). Stone is the oldest and most durable of building materials. Click here for more information on stone walls.
Pressure treated softwood ties are now guaranteed to last 40 years or more, outlasting older hardwood ties, and have a much cleaner appearance than old used railroad ties common in the past. These are our most economical walls. We build our tie walls with proper batter and pitch and tie keys into the hill to ensure a long lasting wall.
